Whole Foods began in 1978 when John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy opened a small natural foods store called “SaferWay” in Austin, Texas. With just $45,000 raised from family and friends, the young couple lived in the store, showered using a hose, and stocked organic groceries out of their garage. Two years later, they joined forces with two other local health food entrepreneurs and opened the first official Whole Foods Market. What started as a humble garage operation quickly grew into a natural foods empire, eventually acquired by Amazon for $13.7 billion in 2017.

In an earlier interview with CNBC, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak criticized Elon Musk for how he handled Dogecoin and the large-scale job cuts at government agencies. He called the layoffs a “sledgehammer” approach and said such drastic moves can hurt a company in the long run. “Just mass firings… it’s not good for a business to run that way,” he said.
Wozniak also voiced his disappointment with Tesla, saying the company hasn’t fixed its quality issues, despite repeated complaints from customers and the media.
He also mentioned he might have been banned from X (formerly Twitter), possibly because of his criticism of Musk. “Maybe it’s because I was on the wrong side of Elon,” he said.
