🎵 Beep beep, who got the keys to the Jeep? V-r-rrrrrrrooooom!
For the first time ever, we beamed a hip-hop song #OutOfThisWorld.
On July 12, an inspirational message from
@MissyMisdemeanorElliott along with lyrics from “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” a single on her platinum-record debut album, traveled about 158 million miles (254 million kilometers) into deep space.
The chosen destination? Venus, the sixth largest planet, a fitting tribute to Missy’s six studio albums.
Traveling at the speed of light, the message took about 14 minutes to reach Venus, thanks to the powerful 34-meter wide antenna nicknamed “Venus” at
@NASAJPL’s Deep Space Network’s Goldstone complex in California.

Video Description:
This video starts with a composite image of the planet Venus, seen as a gold and dark orange mottled globe against a black background. Text overlays throughout in white font describe the first transmission of a hip-hop song to space. Subsequent visuals include a photo of hip hop artist Missy Elliott wearing a yellow, white, and silver bedazzled jumper while performing on stage, and composite images of Venus with blue, green, and brown hues. The video ends with a solid black background featuring NASA’s “meatball” logo, which consists of a blue circle dotted with stars and crossed by a red, V-shaped swoosh. “NASA” is written in large white text on the circle.
