There’s a big solar eclipse coming up this fall. Make sure you’re watching it safely!
On Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse, also known as a “ring of fire” eclipse, will pass over much of North, Central, and South America.
When watching an annular eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are not regular sunglasses—no matter how dark, sunglasses are not safe for viewing the Sun.

A troop of shoebox-sized rovers will soon scout the Moon on their own. Targeted to launch in 2024, CADRE—short for NASA's Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration project—will work together to explore the lunar surface, collect data, and map different areas of the Moon in 3D. The technology may one day be used on Mars or other deep space destinations.
